    Halloween Weekend/Roman's First Phily Trip

Last weekend (Halloween Weekend - yes, this update is a bit late) we took Roman Trick-Or-Treating on Friday night, then took him down to Philly on Saturday.

A while back we found a cute "Dinosaur" costume from Babies 'R Us for Halloween.  We didn't really have any plans at the time, since it would've been weird for us to take him around our neighborhood by ourselves, since he can't eat candy and there are few, if any, trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood.

However, Leona's boss was kind enough to invite us to join his kids trick or treating in his neighborhood.  So last friday, we met up with him and other parents of trick-or-treaters and headed out.  It was a great time.  All the people in the neighborhood were very friendly, and Roman was a big hit.  My arm got a bit tired from carrying him for about 2 hours straight, but it was worth it.  We were going to give Roman's stash of candy to Leona's boss's kids, but their mom said they already had enough.  So, I guess we will just have to eat it ourselves!

Then Saturday was the big trip down to Philly- Roman's first "road trip."  We broke the trip up by taking the opportunity to meet up with a friend that Leona made on a Chinese message board who ALSO had a newborn son of 3.5 months old.  We met at the Grand Opening of a Babies 'R Us in North Brunswick.  We were excited to see what our sons would think of meeting another baby.  However, their reaction could best be described as mild curiosity.

Then after some shopping, we headed to a Shanghai restaurant for a delicious lunch.  After lunch, we said goodbye to our new friends and hit the road again, down to our first stop-Mommom's! Mommom was thrilled to see her 5th great grandchild.

Then to Mom's to see what was going on.  We stuck around for a while, but were beginning to feel exhausted from the long day. We then headed to Dad's for some take-out (too tired to deal with eating out).  Leona napped, while Dad ("Pappi") played with Roman.  They got along great- Pappi had Roman laughing hysterically for like 5 minutes straight.

Then back to Mom's to crash.

When we woke up in the morning, Leona realized that we didn't have a cake for the get together brunch that Mom had generously planned for Roman's quasi-100day b-day celebration.  So we ran out to Philly Chinatown and picked up some stuff, then stopped at 320 for the food mom ordered.

Then my cousins' families came by for the brunch.  It was exciting having all of Mommom's great grandkids together (with the new addition) for the first time.  It's been a while since we've all met up, so it was great to see how big the kids were getting.  Everyone enjoyed meeting Roman, especially Arianna, who got the chance to hold him.

One cute moment was when I mentioned to the kids that Roman was half Chinese.

    "Why??" one of them asked.

"Well because Leona is his mommy and she is Chinese."

"OH, so you can speak Chinese!!?!?!"  another asked of Leona.

    "Yes," she replied.

"Can you say our names in Chinese?" asked another.

So Leona then told them how one would pronounce each of their names in Chinese.

    "COOL!"

Since my Mom was to start taking care of Roman after my paternity leave ended until Thanksgiving, she came back up to CT with us after the party. Again, it was a long drive, but luckily traffic wasn't too bad.  Thought it was an exhausting weekend, it was very much worth it to get the chance to introduce Roman to his Philly relatives who couldn't make it up to CT.
